A very special Corvette Z06 will be up for sale at this month’s Barrett-Jackson vehicle auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The car is a 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, which was built to commemorate the classic American supercar’s inaugural appearance and victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 50 years ago.

In honor of that anniversary, the special Corvette Z06 wears a similar livery to the original class-winning 1960 Cunningham Corvette: Arctic White paint, blue stripes and the number "3".

The car was built by the General Motors Design Center and features a few other special items including a vehicle identification plate numbered 001, Competition Gray paint on the headlight surrounds, side mirrors and wheels, 50th-anniversary of Le Mans logos and blue brake calipers.

In terms of performance upgrades, the car comes with the Z07 performance package with uprated Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, 19 inch wheels up front and 20 inches in the rear, Magnetic Ride Control, carbon fiber splitter and rockers, a ZR1 style spoiler, and finally, more carbon fiber used on the fenders and floor panels.

Proceeds from the auction of this special Corvette Z06 will go to help benefit the National Corvette Museum's planned 500 acre motorsports park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The auction will take place on January 21.

Interestingly, this isn’t the only American muscle being auctioned up for charity at the Scottsdale event. A 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302, the only one in a bright Grabber Blue paint scheme, will go under the hammer to help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
