Nissan-Renault Wants So Champion Electric Car
YOKOHAMA-Nissan Motor Co. and Renault SA seems to have not tried to conceal the fact anymore that they actually want to change the map of the electric vehicle industry with the launch of the Leaf.
"We want to position ourselves as a leader in electric vehicle segment. And to realize that, we're doing everything," said Renault-Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn.
Nissan and Renault reported to have allocated funds amounting to USD 5 billion, in 2013 to build 12 plants and factories assembling the battery. Thus was launched by Reuters on Monday (6/12/2010).
They rencanaya will spread the plant construction in the United States (U.S.), Japan, Portugal, France and Britain so as to produce electric vehicles combined of 500,000 units of vehicles per year. "We would really make a big change for the industry," Ghosn said.
The Nissan and Renault engineers argue that the higher sales volume will allow greater cost cutting. But they predict it will be visible after walking between two to seven years.
Ghosn expects at least one in every 10 new electric vehicles in the world in 2020, as much as one percent can be taken.
For now, with less than 50,000 Leaf is available in the first year, the car will be delivered to the first 6000 customers in Japan and 20,000 other people from the state of the U.S. starting this month.
Portugal will get the first Leaf in Europe in January 2010, followed by Ireland, England and the Netherlands.
Within four years, Renault and Nissan plan to expand the reach of the EV for each of the four models, including commercial vans and compact cars under Nissan's Infiniti premium brand.
